The Power of Us — Dance Place 26/27 Season Program

A bold, dynamic season program design

KTD Creative designed and edited a bold, dynamic season program that captures the energy of Dance Place, the Washington, D.C.–based organization dedicated to empowering movement artists through creative development, performance, and education. The program has received glowing reviews for its clarity, visual impact, and ability to reflect Dance Place’s mission and community.

Built around the season’s rallying theme — The Power of Us — the design had to do something genuinely difficult: hold an entire year of wildly varied programming in a single, at-a-glance view without losing energy or legibility.

From the International Nerdlesque Festival and the AFTER DARK Burlesque series to DC Casineros’ Cuban social dance, KanKouran West African Dance Company, holiday spectaculars, Pride celebrations, family dance parties, artist residencies, and youth showcases, dozens of performances are organized into a rhythmic grid that reads as one unified community rather than a scattered calendar. Oversized, confident typography, a vibrant color palette, and layered performance photography give the piece a pulse that mirrors what happens on stage.

This was a deeply collaborative effort — KTD Creative worked hand in hand with multiple Dance Place staff members to edit, design, and prepare the program for print, refining every performance listing, description, and section of copy for consistency, accuracy, and voice, and delivering the entire piece in the span of just eight business days.

The season program works as part of a cohesive print suite, paired with a fold-out season brochure that carries Dance Place’s mission, resident companies, adult and youth education programs, rental spaces, and accessibility information — all in the same visual language.

The result is a system that’s as welcoming and inclusive as the organization itself: expressive enough to signal the breadth of the season, structured enough to guide patrons to exactly what they’re looking for, and flexible enough to grow as new performances are announced throughout the year.

It’s a partnership rooted in deep familiarity — KTD Creative has worked with the Washington, D.C.–based organization since April 2014, and that long collaboration shows in a design that speaks Dance Place’s language fluently.
